The grand celebrations of Sagarika and Tushar: A big fat Indian wedding with eight functions

Sagarika and Tushar met during their Master's course at University through some common friends. These two would bump into each other here and there, but their initial interactions were always short. However, this one time Tushar revealed to Sagarika that he had actually enrolled in a particular Master's course that she was in because he wanted to talk to her. That’s when the sparks started to fly! Tushar also complimented Sagarika on her florescent shoes, which certainly helped seal the deal. “One time we went for a movie and never really watched the movie; instead we just talked about random things throughout the movie. We took our time but this relationship was really meant to be”, mentioned Tushar.

Sagarika claims she knew Tushar was the one within the first couple of months because of the way he showed care and concern. “It was the little efforts that made me realize that he is the one. This included Tushar cooking for me and being there for me whenever I needed him. There was so much kindness and genuineness in his love, I could just feel it. I remember one particular instance; during my PhD years, there was one advanced subject that I was having trouble with. I was on a full scholarship and failing this course could potentially cost me my scholarship. At that time, he was so encouraging and supportive; in fact, he even told me that if something were to happen then he would support me and help me finish my studies. That love and support was deeply touching”, recalls Sagarika.

And just like that, Sagarika and Tushar decided that they were ready to tie the knot. This meant it was time to start planning the wedding. The couple started the process of wedding planning in April 2023 and were all set to get married in January 2024. The planning process was long and hectic, especially since they were both working abroad so they would spend their nights talking to vendors back in India. However, both their parents were very supportive; even though both their parents lived in different cities, they were fully involved and helped the couple throughout the wedding planning process.

Finally, 2023 came to an end and it was time for Sagarika and Tushar to get married. The wedding festivities started at the beginning of January and lasted an entire month. The first ceremony was the bridal mehendi where the bride and all her closest friends and family got mehendi. The next day was the official mehendi. This function was attended by friends and family alike. “There were live food counters, picture-perfect photobooths, mehendi favours, a happening DJ and a great emcee who made us all play many games. The bar had some amazing cocktails which were named after Tushar and me; the highlight of the function was the Arabic mehendi that we had for the guests”, added Sagrika.

The next day was the sangeet. There were dances from the bride’s side and the groom’s side followed by the cutest couple dance. The couple danced to ‘Heeriye', ‘Meri mehaboob meri sanam’ and ‘Tumse hi’ followed by a bridal solo on ‘Sajna’. These dances were followed by a DJ and then Delhi Rockers took over the stage and performed till the wee hours of the morning. All in all, the sangeet was a huge success and every single guest could be seen dancing the night away. “For me, the best part of the pre-wedding festivities was the nights we would practice our choreography for the sangeet. I can definitively say that I had the most fun during our online choreography classes. So, our friends and family back in India would be practising in person while we would take classes on Zoom calls. But due to the time difference, Tushar and I, two serious techies who were coding and selling products, would be simultaneously practising our couple’s dance. We were literally dancing to Bollywood songs in the middle of our work day; the thought of us working and dancing still makes me laugh”, shared Sagarika.

The next morning was the Haldi function. “Of course, we had a whole lot of after-party hangover drinks served at the Haldi. Our parents had called Chandulal, a very famous violinist from Goa to perform at the haldi. There were live food counters and of course, an emcee to make us play yet some more games”, said Sagarika. But the highlight of this function was definitely watching Sagrika and Tushar’s friends and family smear haldi on the couple!

The next day was the wedding pheras. Tushar came with his big baarat, a moving DJ station and a moving drinks counter – what a grand baraat indeed! The joint baraat was done on a classic two-seater after which Sagarika and Tushar exchanged varmalas at sunset. The location was just beautiful and we are pleased to say that we got some of the most gorgeous sunset photographs of this lovely couple. The varmala exchange was followed by the sunset pheras where Sagarika and Tushar exchanged their vows and finally tied the knot. “I really cherished the varmala exchange. For me, this moment was so special and it really was something that was out of this world. This memory will be etched in my heart forever”, shared Sagarika.

And that brings us to function number six, the wedding reception. Sagarika and Tushar invited their friends and family from all over the world to be a part of their grand celebration. The wedding reception involved drinking, dancing and a whole lot of happy faces. This was followed by an after party which certainly went on till the sun came out! “Bar Bharaati, our bartenders for the event, made sure that the alcohol was following at all hours. They really ensured that there was enough alcohol at all times, and they made some delicious cocktails all night long, which is why the after-party lasted till 5 in the morning. And, a big shoutout to Akash and DJ Maddy who played through the night and really set the dance floor on fire”, shared Sagarika.

Finally, Tushar and Sagarika had a reception in Bangalore at the Chamara Vajra Palace Grounds. This is where Tushar’s family met all of Sagarika’s extended family and relatives who lived in Banglore. This was a more formal event where the families could bless the couple, spend time with each other and really get to know everyone present. And just like that, after function number eight, Tushar and Sagarika were officially husband and wife.

“A big thank you to Lightbucket Productions. I think it is their team of amazing photographers that made us choose Lightbucket Productions; they worked with us like they were family. Each photographer was easy to work with and easy to talk to; they knew when to be super professional and when to be super fun! Tushar and I were so happy with the work Lightbucket Productions had done at our engagement and that made us confident that they will do a great job at our wedding, which they did! Honestly, I think Lightbucket Productions is accommodating and super reasonable, and honestly, I think they are the best vendors ever – not just photographer vendors, but the best vendors! I’ve built lifelong friends with this team” is the message that we got from Sagarika, and we couldn’t be happier!
