How to deal with jet lag during your wedding

The events leading up to the wedding day can be tiring, exhausting and rather hectic, especially for brides. From multiple outfit changes to sitting for hours during hair and makeup, modern-day brides are basically functioning on coffee and excitement! Now, imagine if you are jet lagged before the wedding. So, you’re basically functioning in a very different time zone and you probably cannot sleep until the sun comes up. While this might be a great thing for the youngster's event, you need to be up and about much earlier for other events. After speaking to multiple couples who have flown in from all over the world for their big fat Indian wedding, as well as wedding guests who have flown in for their special, here is the LightBucket Productions guide to tackling jet lag during your wedding.

Ideally, you want to get over the jet lag before your wedding functions start. Usually, jet lag lasts about 2 to 3 days, and in some cases a little longer. If you have travelled frequently, you know how long it takes your body to recover after a long flight and different time zones. So, the best way to beat jet lag is by flying in a few days before the wedding functions start! That way, you have a few days in hand to relax, recover and recuperate.

Now, if you just do not have the luxury of time and you are flying in for your wedding functions just before they start, you might experience some jet lag. In our opinion, the best way to beat jet lag is by not sleeping. So, say you land in India in the morning, then you will want to avoid the urge to sleep during the day. That way, when you actually get into bed at night you will fall asleep quickly, and wake up totally fresh! Alternatively, if you’re landing in the middle of the night or the middle of the afternoon, you should try to get some sleep on the plane so that you don’t feel sleepy at odd hours. Essentially, you want to try to figure out your sleep schedule based on the new time zone, so try to get some shut-eye on the flight depending on the time zone where you are landing. If you are worried about dealing with wedding planning, delegate. After all, isn’t that what family is for? Ask your friends and family members to help you with the last-minute planning so that you don’t start stressing – an overworked mind definitely won’t let you get any sleep, and that will just make your jet lag worse.

If you have tried everything and you literally cannot get over your jet lag, then it might be time to try something a little different. Chamomile tea is great to make you sleepy, so try to have some before getting into bed. You can also try melatonin strips or melatonin gummies to help you sleep at the right time. And for the rest of it, you’re probably going to need to function on caffeine. Plus, won’t the thought of your wedding have you excited enough to get going? Drink lots of water, dehydration is not a bride’s friend! Also, try to skip sleeping the first night, especially if you land in the wee hours of the morning, so that when you do sleep that night, your body clock can reset! And of course, if your dark circles are acting up, you can just ask your makeup artist to work their magic and ta-da, none will be the wiser. Or, just wear shades!
