The modern-age romance of Nima and Sankeern: A grand temple themed wedding
The perfect example of a modern-day romance, Nima and Sankeern literally hit it off on social media; he slid into her DM’s! As the story goes, Nima and Sankeern met at an annual community cricket event. Nima had first seen Sankeern at this event in 2019 and she had a massive crush on him, but she did nothing about it. Then, they met at that very cricket event again, in 2021. This time, Nima and Sankeern both noticed each other and Sankeern ended up sending Nima a message on Instagram that evening.
On their first date, Nima and Sankeern went to Spindrift and it was love at first sight, yet again! “I knew I was going to marry this guy, I was just sure of it. I had butterflies in my stomach and I just knew. Thankfully, the feeling was mutual,” said Nima. After a year of getting to know each other, Nima and Sankeern got engaged in 2022. There was no official proposal but they did get engaged among friends and family in the month of May. And just like that, the process of wedding planning was off to a great start!
“We are truly grateful to our parents for letting us have the wedding of our dreams. Every event had a different theme and everything was planned to the tee; I honestly feel so blessed. So, his parents and my family were in Mangalore while Sankeern was in Banglore during the wedding planning process. Needless to say, there was a whole lot of difference in opinion and I think Sankeern did his bit by staying out of the wedding planning process,” recalled Nima.
The wedding functions started off with the phoolan ki holi on the 16th of December 2022. It was a rather lively event with a party-starting DJ, a loud Punjabi dhol, delicious live food counters and just a whole lot of happy faces all around!
This was followed by the sangeet, where Rajesh Krishnan performed, followed by a DJ. The highlight of the sangeet was the surprise dance that Sankeern had planned for Nima, along with his cousins; it was just amazing! The couple and their friends had a great time; they laughed, they danced and everyone had an absolute blast!
The next day, on the 17th of December 2023, the couple had a traditional engagement ceremony in the morning. “As per a traditional GSB community engagement ceremony, the groom’s family brings a saare, jewellery and gifts for the bride which the bride then wears. I changed into the saare and jewellery that his family got for me and we exchanged our rings, after which we were officially engaged. We wore matching outfits, which was something that I was very keen on,” recalled Nima.
That evening, it was time to tie the knot. Nima told us, “At the wedding venue, we had a Tirupathi mandap as it was always my mother’s dream to have a Tirupathi mandap on the day of my wedding. We had a grand temple-themed wedding, with almost 4000 guests. My parents always wanted to have a big fat Indian wedding the day I got married and that is exactly what they did! For me, the most special moment was the kanyadan. My closest family, including my mother’s grandparents, was part of this ritual. It was a very emotional moment for all of us and one that I cherish the most. Another special moment was when I put the garland around Sankeern. That memory will always be very special for me.”
It was a quick two-day affair, with two events per day. With that being said, each affair was unique, special and spectacular; the attention to detail was evident! Once we sent the wedding photographs to Nima and Sankeern, we were very keen to hear their feedback and what Nima had to say really made our day! She told us, “I am so happy with the wedding album! Honestly, Lightbucket Productions has always been my dream photographer. Even before I knew who I was going to marry, I knew one thing for sure that whenever I get married I am going to have Lightbucket Productions at my wedding!”
